Laboratory testing examines your blood, urine, saliva, or bodily tissues to evaluate your health. Dr. Dillman and the team offer laboratory testing at the time of your appointment.
They also have a separate lab for testing for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), COVID-19, strep throat, urine drug screenings, Department of Transportation (DOT) exams, and international normalized ratio (INR).
The onsite lab runs many of the tests in-house, while Quest Diagnostics® runs others via daily courier.
What are the different types of laboratory testing?
There are many types of laboratory testing. Some of the most common types include:
Complete blood count (CBC)
A CBC is one of the most common types of blood tests. It measures your levels of red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, hemoglobin, and hematocrit.
STD testing
STD testing checks your blood or urine for the presence of sexually transmitted diseases, such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, or human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
Drug screening
A drug screening is a type of urinalysis that detects the presence of marijuana, amphetamines, methamphetamine, opiates, cocaine, and other drugs in your system.
COVID-19 testing
COVID-19 testing analyzes your mucus or saliva to diagnose SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
Strep throat test
A strep throat test involves swabbing the mucus in your throat to look for strep A antigens. This rapid test can help diagnose strep throat quickly.
International normalized ratio (INR) test
An INR test tracks the amount of time it takes for your blood to clot. Dr. Dillman may order an INR test to monitor blood-thinning medications or diagnose a blood-clotting disorder.
Lipid panel
A lipid panel measures triglycerides — waxy substances in the blood — to determine whether you have high cholesterol.
Thyroid function test
The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland located at the front of your neck. The small gland helps regulate many of your basic functions, such as metabolism and temperature, through the thyroid stimulating hormone. A thyroid function test measures your hormone levels to diagnose or rule out a thyroid disorder.
Liver panel
A liver panel is a blood test that helps assess your liver function. Dr. Dillman may order this test to diagnose a liver disorder.

What is rapid COVID-19 testing?
COVID-19 is a potentially serious infection caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, a type of coronavirus. Testing for the infection is the most effective way for public health officials to accurately record case numbers and prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Unlike the molecular test, which magnifies sections of RNA to detect the virus’ presence, rapid testing (antigen testing) checks for protein markers on the outside of the virus.
How effective is rapid COVID-19 testing?
Rapid COVID-19 testing is most accurate when you have a high viral load. As a result, Dr. Dillman recommends visiting for a rapid test when you’re already exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, such as:
Most rapid tests can accurately detect the presence of COVID-19 1-5 days after your initial symptoms start.
What happens during rapid COVID-19 testing?
During a rapid COVID-19 test, Dr. Dillman collects a sample of your mucus using nasal swabs. She inserts the swab into your nostril to collect the specimen then repeats the process in your other nostril. The entire process is quick and painless. Most rapid COVID-19 tests take about five minutes or less.
How long does it take to get results from rapid COVID-19 testing?
Unlike molecular testing, which can take 24-72 hours to get results, your rapid test results are available within 24 hours. Dr. Dillman and the team at MD² can notify you of your results within hours of collection thanks to their onsite laboratory and partnership with Quest Diagnostics®.
What happens if my rapid COVID-19 test returns positive?
If you test positive for COVID-19, it’s essential to stay home and quarantine away from others. Self-isolation ensures you can’t spread the viral infection to your community. You may also need to contact anybody you’ve seen within the week before you received your positive result so they can seek testing.
The symptoms of COVID-19 can vary from mild to severe. Many individuals experience minor symptoms that require little more than rest, hydration, and over-the-counter (OTC) cold and flu medication. However, if you experience difficulty breathing, sudden chest pain, or confusion, you should seek emergency care right away.
